Shelmerdine has made the Daytona 500. He will start 42nd, and beat Menard in by .007!

Question: Do you think Evernham will try to buy Kirk's spot from him, ensuring Riggs/Valvoline get a showing?

Question: Do you think Evernham will try to buy Kirk's spot from him, ensuring Riggs/Valvoline get a showing? Well, seeing as how the #10 car is co-owned by Ray and Valvoline (therefore, Valvoline Evernham Racing, LLC), I'll say this: I really can't see Ray buying the spot like that. However, Valvoline may do that...

Honestly, Valvoline & that team may try buying the spot.. but Kirk won't give this up.. it's every driver's dream to run the Daytona 500.. No way they'll buy Kirk's ride, although I wouldn't doubt Valvoline possibly buying their way onto the car as a sponsor

Congrats to Kirk on making it.....I definitely think that he'll pick up a primary sponsor for the race. You never know, if he can pick himself up a sponsor, he may surprise some people in the 500.....

200 grand is a nice chunk of change allright, but I can't see Kirk finishing 43rd, someone else, my guess Kvapil or Mike Wallace will peter out before Kirk . He'll drive the wheels off that car and be a field filler at best, but I don't believe his car will have the adequate handling to go more than 70-100 laps in the race. But Kudos to him for making the show. I hope this catches the eye of some corporate sponsor and gives him some money to run a few races this year. As we all know we were rootin for Morgan and the 89 car to make the show but again it looks like Morgan and the gang brought a slingshot to a gun fight and had no chance of making the show. He should have called Ray Evenrham months ago to purchase a couple engines but that didn't happen. I reastically think Morgans only hope to qualify for a race this year will be at Pocono where he has qualified well enough to race, but we would all like to see him make a shorter track race like Richmond, Bristol or Martinsville, but Morgan typically does not take his caravan to those shows.

btw Stanton Barrett would have been the show I think if it had not been for him blowing a right front and slamming the wall. Nice to see Stanton in a fully sponsored car though. Let me tell you, Stanton is a helluva driver but has no luck whatsoever and typically has one of the most underfunded cars at the track every week. But like good ole DW says "sometimes you gotta make haywall out of sunshine". (IE) Loudon last year where he finished 10th in the snowfrog.us Pontiac in a race loaded with bushwackers. ;D Go Stanton Go!!! lets see the 95 turn some heads in cup this year!!!
