If we were talking about Morgan, I suppose that would make sense. So what is Kirk bringing to the track? Hope he has it set up right. he's had some time to work on it.

I was glad to see Kirk's name on the entry list for this weekends race at Talledega. Here's wishing him good luck in qualifying and a weekend sponsor. The guy knows how to run the restricted super-speedways, lets hope he makes the field and brings his racecar home in one piece. I'll be tuned in to MRN (or PRN, whatever) from the saddle of my Harley Davidson somewhere on the left coast. PEACE

Looks like 49 or 50 on the list. I hope Kirk is able to get into the race. I think RCR would like to see another friendly face there

Oh it'll be in one piece alright. Probably around lap 14-22. Look, if you don't want people hating on your beloved Carl Long, would it be so hard for you to refrain from bashing Kirk on his forum? You do enough of that on Carl's board without being asked to stop.

I never bashed. I never said anything negative about Kirk. I made a reference to EVERY other race he's EVER competed in (except one...Daytona 500) that is factually based. I never said anything negative. I never bashed. Plain & Simple.
Again, why do you ********* (ok now *THAT's* bashing!) keep bringing Carl Long into the discussion? What in the HELL does this have to do with Carl Long? If you want to hate on Carl Long, then by all means its your right, but you have absolutely NOTHING to base your hatred on. I'm basing my displeasure with Kirk on all of his previous actions. (S&P's)

I'm not a big fan of that kind of language... but again, we have to try to bring an end to this discussion... if someone would say that Carl would be in the garage around lap 20, you (Matthew) would have a problem with it.. so, why don't you seem to understand that your saying Kirk will be in the garage around lap 20 would upset Kirk's fans
here, to end this discussion for good.. are the factual statistics about both Kirk & Carl
Carl Long: 23 starts... 2000 Dover - 41st (12 laps CRASH), 2000 Rockingham 32nd (-52 laps), 2001 Charlotte - 29th (-6 laps), 2001 Rockingham - 42nd (170 laps CRASH), 2001 Atlanta - 43rd (15 laps CRASH), 2002 Pocono - 42nd (18 laps BRAKES), 2002 Atlanta - 39th (-11 laps), 2004 Rockingham - 38th (255 laps CRASH), 2004 Las Vegas - 38th (145 laps OIL PUMP), 2004 Pocono - 41st (39 laps CRASH), 2004 Loudon - 42nd (100 laps TRANSMISSION), 2004 Pocono - 39th (44 laps TOO SLOW), 2004 Michigan - 39th (98 laps REAR END), 2005 Bristol - 42nd (37 laps OVERHEATING), 2005 Phoenix - 43rd (52 laps ENGINE), 2005 Darlington - 42nd (69 laps REAR END), 2005 Dover - 42nd (26 laps OVERHEATING), 2005 Chicago - 40th (148 laps HANDLING), 2005 Loudon - 43rd (8 laps BRAKES), 2005 Bristol - 32nd (-28 laps), 2005 Dover - 42nd (144 laps ENGINE), 2005 Atlanta - 32nd (-14 laps), 2006 Bristol - 41st (256 laps ELECTRICAL)
Kirk Shelmerdine: 26 starts... 1981 College Station - 33rd (2 laps QUIT), 1994 Talladega - 26th (-9 laps), 2002 Loudon - 42nd (10 laps OIL PRESSURE), 2002 Pocono - 41st (81 laps BRAKES), 2004 Rockingham - 42nd (19 laps REAR END), 2004 Las Vegas - 43rd (8 laps ENGINE), 2004 Atlanta - 40th (60 laps HANDLING), 2004 Darlington - 39th (49 laps TOO SLOW), 2004 Bristol - 41st (7 laps HANDLING), 2004 Fort Worth - 42nd (8 laps HANDLING), 2004 Fontana - 42nd (5 laps HANDLING), 2004 Dover - 39th (53 laps HANDLING), 2004 Pocono - 40th (42 laps WHEEL BEARING), 2004 Michigan - 43rd (13 laps HANDLING), 2004 Pocono - 41st (40 laps TOO SLOW), 2004 Michigan - 27th (109 laps IGNITION), 2004 Richmond - 41st (87 laps BRAKES), 2004 Loudon - 42nd (30 laps TOO SLOW), 2004 Dover - 40th (37 laps ENGINE), 2004 Kansas - 43rd (3 laps CLUTCH), 2004 Martinsville - 40th (86 laps ENGINE), 2004 Darlington - 42nd (14 laps TOO SLOW), 2005 Pocono - 42nd (11 laps OVERHEATING), 2006 Daytona - 20th, 2006 Talladega - 41st (9 laps CRASH), 2006 Daytona - 43rd (28 laps REAR END)
If we give them the same lee-way.. Carl Long has S&P'd 4 times (under my formula.. all races ran under 50 laps with a reason other than crash, engine, or too slow).. and Kirk has S&P'd 13 times (including the 1981 race)
So, maybe Kirk has "S&P'd" 50% of the time.. it's not like Carl is innocent.. and we do know that Carl has only S&P'd twice in his career (once where there was a short field at Pocono in the 85 & once where they didn't have brakes in the 00 at Loudon).. so, if you can take extenuating circumstances to Kirk.. let's take a look at that
1981 College Station - Kirk was in Jimmy Means' backup car, he had no say whether he ran 1 lap or 100 laps
2002 Loudon - First race for this team.. they very well might have had a mechanical problem.. since Kirk had been away from the Cup series for so long
2004 Rockingham - Short field, he parked it
2004 Las Vegas - If I remember correctly, there WAS smoke coming out from behind the 72 car, sign of an actual engine problem
2004 Bristol - Kirk wrecked in qualifying, this was his backup... it was a 2002 Taurus, that thing would have been dangerous to have running on the track
2004 Fort Worth & Fontana - Still running that 2002 Taurus, he would have probably caused a wreck much like Andy Hillenburg did at Darlington that damaged Gordon & Stewart's cars
2004 Pocono - 42 laps at Pocono.... that thing wasn't parked, you aren't S&P'ing when you do that much wear to a car
2004 Michigan - He probably did park it
2004 Dover - Didn't the car start smoking here too? Wouldn't that be fair reason to pull it in the garage?
2004 Kansas - I'm not sure.. so I won't explain.. I'll assume he S&P'd.. but clutch problem may have been something for real.. not sure
2005 Pocono - Yes, he parked it, he needed money after missing every other race that season
2006 Daytona (400) - ran 28 laps in the draft.. seems kind of stupid if you're trying to park it.. since you'd be putting yourself and your car in that much danger.. probably felt out that the car had no chance of running half decent, so he made the smart decision NOT to hurt himself or anyone else
There, that's exactly what has been done for Carl Long (who I am a fan of).. explanations.. Kirk isn't just an S&P'er.. just look at facts
Any more bashing (without FACTS to base it upon).. shall result in a lock of this thread
