Is there anything even left in the tank? His last two outings were miserable. Even on the plate track. TC is driving for him, so maybe Kirk can devote all his time to slapping something together.

Only the best tape and coat hangers on this one! We need one good lap to collect a check! Come on Ted!

Yup. Get in the show and S&P after a couple laps. That will make Matt happy. ;D

LOL...sometimes I just don't need to say anything. *Some* of you folks' responses speak volumes for your ideals on "racing." Katesdad, you sum yourself up right there and unfortunately a large percentage of parking fans.

The way I see it, Kirk doesn't stand a chance against all the big name, big money sponsors. So if he S&P's, then so be it. Sure I would like to see him go the distance, but if the ride won't take him there, I understand. Just qualifying with what he, Morgan, and yes even Carl have to work with is a major accomplishment. Taking it to the end is almost impossible and is just wasting money. Last place is last place whether you run 500 laps or 50. Keep in mind, he does have to put food on the table.
Besides, who cares what happens in the back of the field anyway? Is that coveted 43rd place finish really that important? Everything that means anything is going on up front and nothing that happens back in the pack will effect much.
But you won't have much to worry about in the next few years. With the growing purses and the sponsorship dollars, soon the mega teams like Roush will be putting 8-10 cars in the field each. The day of the small time owner driver will be gone. No more Kirk, no more Morgan, and no more Carl.
Even the better funded single car teams like Robby Gordon will then struggle to compete. But then I'll be there cheering Robby on anyway. As he S&P's his COT. ;D

Sadly cleaveland, I have to agree with you. I'm SO dreading the COT. Next year will be another one of those rare years with such an abundance of highly funded, big name teams, that the true underdog will barely stand a chance. But I'm betting by halfway point, many of those teams may be defunct. As far as the "who cares about what the underdogs do" argument, I must disagree. You see, that is what makes me CHEER for the little guys. The dedication, determination and desire to IMPROVE. You may think that Furniture Row and Front Row are just wasting money staying out on the track. I see them as trying to better their effort so they may be more competivive the next time around. Track time is track time. Especially with testing at a minimum now. Plus there's that whole argument of "the point of racing is...well...RACING" and not just to collect prize money. There are plenty of job opportunities out there for people who want to make an honest living. I wouldn't show up for 30 minutes of my 8 hour shift and expect to get a whole day's pay. I feel like parking is robbing the fans out of their money as well as robbing legit teams who would attempt to run the distance out of their money. (sorry....trying not to go back into the whole S&P argument Yes, who ever qualifies for the race can do whatever they want to do with the starting position, but it just goes against everything I believe in. I'd be content seeing my boys fight it out for the distance even if they DID finish in last place. However, if someone parked it (say at a race like Charlotte last week) and still got a top 25 or so out of it, I would walk away with a feeling of disapointment. (even after a relatively "good" finish) But that's just me. One thing I've learned though from following the sport for 20 years. Its an ebb and flow effect. I wouldn't be surprised to see NA$COW struggling to fill fields in 2008. As big of a boom as we're seeing right now in highly funded teams, it WILL change eventually. (I hope)

I'm really looking forward to 2007.
It's going to be bittersweet seeing teams like PPI, BAM, and MMM missing race after race, but life goes on. They have made some improvements this year but it's not going to be enough.
As a fan, I'm going to love watching 43 competitive cars race. No more start and park or low budget track hazards. Furniture Row was decent in the Busch series, and that team and others similar to them need to consider competing full time in lower NASCAR divisions.

This shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone. After the poor qualifying effort at Talladega a few weeks ago; a track he should have done well at, it was apparent that the tank was empty and the money spent. He should have packed it in after that.
It's too bad he didn't make it in, though. I was really looking forward to seeing one last S&P. ;D
